MercurySteam has released the first update for Metroid Dread on Nintendo Switch. It’s not the most extensive but update 1.0.1 offers a fix to a critical issue that could halt progress when nearing the end of the game. This occurred when using a late-game weapon on a door that has a map marker placed on it.

Along with fixing the same, the update addresses “several other issues” to improve the “overall gameplay experience.” Those haven’t been mentioned though so you’ll need to play the game for yourself. Metroid Dread released for the Switch on October 8th and along with netting strong critical acclaim, it’s done well in sales. At launch, it became the fastest selling Metroid game in the UK till date while becoming the fourth highest-selling title in the series for Japan.

Check out our review here for more details on what makes the game so good. Despite the positive reception, MercurySteam has faced criticism for omitting developers from the credits. You can read more about here.

Metroid Dread Update 1.0.1 Release Notes

General Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where, if a map marker is placed on a specific door on the map screen (the door destroyed with the beam obtained at the end of the game), destroying that door at the end of the game would cause the game to forcefully quit with the message “The software was closed because an error occurred”.
  • Fixed several other issues to improve overall gameplay experience.
